Lake Manyara National Park is a diverse and scenic wildlife reserve located in northern Tanzania, about 126 kilometers southwest of Arusha. Lake Manyara National Park is situated at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, bordering the Gregory Rift. The park covers an area of approximately 330 square kilometers. Despite its relatively small size, Lake Manyara National Park is home to a diverse range of wildlife. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, which are a rare sight in Africa. Other commonly spotted animals include elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, impalas, and numerous bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, and storks.
Lake Manyara is renowned for its abundant birdlife, with over
400 bird species recorded within the park. The alkaline waters
of the lake attract large flocks of water birds, including
flamingos, pelicans, herons, egrets, and kingfishers. The
groundwater forests are also rich in bird species, including
hornbills, turacos, and sunbirds. Lake Manyara National Park is
a hidden gem in Tanzania's northern safari circuit, offering a
unique combination of wildlife viewing, birdwatching, and scenic
beauty in a compact and easily accessible location.
