Mkomazi National Park is a protected area located in the Kilimanjaro Region and Tanga Region of Tanzania, covering an area of approximately 3,234 square kilometers. It is bordered by the Pare Mountains to the west and the Usambara Mountains to the northeast. Mkomazi National Park is home to a variety of wildlife species, including elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, impalas, elands, oryx, and gerenuks. It is also one of the few protected areas in Tanzania where the endangered African wild dog (painted wolf) can be found. The park is known for its birdlife, with over 450 bird species recorded within its boundaries, including the rare and endemic Taita falcon.
Mkomazi National Park is gradually emerging as a tourist
destination, offering opportunities for game drives, guided
walks, birdwatching, and camping. The park is less visited than
some of Tanzania's more famous national parks, providing a more
exclusive and off-the-beaten-path safari experience.
