Fort Jesus is a historic fortress located in Mombasa, Kenya, along the eastern coastline of Africa. Fort Jesus is an impressive example of military architecture from the Portuguese Renaissance period. The fortress features a pentagonal shape with bastions at each corner, designed to provide optimal defense against enemy attacks. The walls are constructed from coral limestone and are reinforced with battlements, loopholes, and a moat. Was built by the Portuguese in the late 16th century, between 1593 and 1596, to secure their possessions on the East African coast and protect against attacks from rival powers, particularly the Ottoman Empire.
