Arusha National Park is situated just northeast of the city of Arusha, making it easily accessible for visitors embarking on safari adventures in northern Tanzania. It covers an area of approximately 552 square kilometers. The centerpiece of Arusha National Park is Mount Meru, the fifth-highest mountain in Africa, standing at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet) above sea level. The mountain is a dormant stratovolcano and offers spectacular hiking opportunities, including multi-day treks to the summit. While not as famous as Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru is renowned for its stunning views, diverse ecosystems, and abundant wildlife.
Despite its relatively small size, Arusha National Park is home
to a diverse range of wildlife, including giraffes, buffaloes,
zebras, warthogs, antelopes, and primates such as blue monkeys
and colobus monkeys. The park is also known for its rich
birdlife, with over 400 bird species recorded within its
boundaries. And rich in cultural heritage, with archaeological
sites dating back to prehistoric times. The park is home to the
Ngurdoto Crater, a volcanic caldera that is believed to have
been formed over 15 million years ago.
